Design System &
Coding

I initiated the process of building a design system, including research on what a design system is, how to create a design system and what should the process include.

The process included:

  • Taking stock of what we had

I did an inventory of all existing UI elements and components of the product, such as: heading and body fonts, icons, fields, buttons, modals and more.

  • Organizing into libraries

I started by using the atomic design system methodology, yet as the process continued, I was able to build off this approach and develop a methodology that was more suitable for Emerge components.

  • Implementing the code

I searched together with the team's developers for each component in the coding environment and check for duplicates or versions that were not in use, and delete or merge as necessary.

In order to make the code consistent and adaptable, we produced a global styling file that contained all the reusable style conventions.

  • Maintaining the system

After the massive initiative of creating and implementing a design system, we make sure to continually update the code and UI design so the design system stays relevant.
